Adverse Weather Conditions Prevents Marella Dream and AidaPrima Departing Port of Funchal

Jan 30, 2018

Due to strong winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, and waves from 4 to 4.5 meters Madeira archipelago is under yellow warning today,  reports the Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The adverse weather conditions in the Port of Funchal prevented two cruise ships to depart today and two more to dock.

The cruise ships Marella Dream and Aida Prima which needed to depart today, remain moored in the port of Funchal due to the strong wind. The cruise ship Norwegian Spirit was scheduled to arrive today but instead decided to cancel the call and head for the next scheduled destination, Malaga, Spain. Aidasol, which was supposed to be moored until the next night, remains anchored at sea waiting for better conditions to dock.

According to the Institute, the Madeira archipelago will be under a yellow warning until 15:00 today due to a strong northeast wind forecast with gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour. The region is still under yellow warning due to the forecast of downpours, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms, until 12:00 today.

As a result of the bad weather conditions 8 Flights were canceled yesterday at the Madeira Airport, and some diverted.
