Coast Guard Medevacs Injured Crew Member from Anthem of the Seas

US Coast Guard performed a medical evacuation of a crew member from the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Anthem of the Seas. The incident was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, two hours after the vessel departed from its homeport Cape Liberty, Bayonne. Coast Guard watch standers at a command center in Boston were notified by the ship's authorities that a 34-year-old man aboard the ship was experiencing severe leg pain.

Coast Guard send 87-foot Patrol Boat, to rendezvous with the ship and receive the injured crew member. At approximately 8:30 p.m., the man was transferred to the cutter. And later safely moved on to the small boat to expedite the transit to shore. At 11:30 p.m., the crew member was transferred to awaiting emergency medical services back at Station Jones Beach. Emergency Medical Services took the patient to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York.

The crew member identity or current condition is unknown.
