The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 41-year-old crew member on Monday from the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, Norwegian Getaway. The cruise ship departed from Miami on April 15, and was sailing to Costa Maya when the medical emergency was requested.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received a call from the ship’s officers at midnight stating that a male crewmember was suffering from internal issues and needed urgent medical evacuation.

A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew arrived on the scene (approximately 45 miles south of Marathon) at 5:40 a.m. hoisted the patient and transferred him to the air station where awaiting emergency medical services transported the crew member to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for further medical treatment.

The identity of the crew member or details of his condition were not released. Here is a video of the actual medical evacuation on Norwegian Getaway released by the USCG Southeast.
