Cuban rafters, picked up by Carnival Conquest 30 miles off Havana

Cuban rafters, picked up by the Carnival Conquest Cruise about 30 miles off north Havana on the Florida Strait. July 19, 2014. It happened around 4:00 pm and hours later were taken by an American Coast Guard.

The cruise ship returned from tour of the Caribbean, passing just north coast of Cuba, about 30 miles approximately, between Pinar del Rio, Havana. The cruise stopped, while the captain announced the cause: had sighted some rafters in a fragile boat. We would stop and give them medical care, food and water before calling the Coast Guard to be processed according to the immigration laws of the United States
