Medical Emergency: Coast Guard evacuates crew member from Queen Mary 2

Jul 07, 2018

A crew member on board the Cunard’s ocean liner Queen Mary 2 was evacuated due to a medical emergency and transported to a hospital on Friday evening. Coast Guard rescue team medically evacuated a 32-year-old woman suffering from abdominal pains near Breezy Point, Queens, New York. One hour after departing from New York City, Queen Mary 2 crew notified watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector New York command center stating the crewmember needed medical attention.

A passenger sailing on QM2 says the ship “left NY then turned and sailed back towards the bridge but turned again before they reached it. Looks like there may be something going on as NYPD and Fire Dept have boats around her.

A conference call between the Coast Guard flight surgeon and Queen Mary 2 doctor determined that a Station New York rescue team was the best option for an evacuation of the ailing crew member. At approximately 6:30 p.m Response Boat-Medium rescue crew and FDNY arrived on the scene, transferred the woman, and transported her to Staten Island University Hospital.

The woman’s current medical condition is unknown and her identity was not revealed. We wish her all the best for a speedy recovery.
