Jan 10, 2019

A touching tribute was held in the port of Galveston for the crew member Charnel Rego who died suddenly onboard Carnival Freedom. With tears in their eyes, and wave of emotions, many crew and officers attended the ceremony in front of Carnival Freedom on January 5, 2019. The tribute has been marked with an emotional flower-laying ceremony into the sea by a group of Charnel’s closest friends.

Crew members from all departments gathered at front of the ship’s gangway holding flowers and printed signs with messages: Farewell Charnel Rest in Peace, with cherished memories and laden hearts, from your Carnival Freedom family, till we meet again.

Charnel Rego from Mumbai, India, was working as Assistant Maitre D' for Carnival Cruise Line. He passed away suddenly onboard Carnival Freedom from a heart attack while picking up his lunch in the staff mess. For two hours Shipboard medical personnel tried to revive him, but it was too late.

Charnel will be remembered as a hardworking team player with a positive attitude, always smiling and full of fun and laughter. He was well-liked by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by the entire Carnival Family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Carol, and their two children.
