Royal Princess Cancels Mexico Voyage

Mar 08, 2020

Princess Cruises has canceled the March 7, voyage on Royal Princess. The cruise ship was scheduled to depart from Los Angeles (San Pedro), California on a 7 Night Mexican Riviera cruise, however, it was canceled at the last minute notice as the guest had already arrived at the cruise terminal.

For now, the official reason for the cancelled voyage is not known. Princess Cruises distributed a letter among the passengers who were waiting to board the ship saying:

“We are very sorry to inform you that Royal Princess cruise scheduled to depart today has been canceled.

We have been working closely with the local authorities but were unable to obtain the necessary clearance for your embarkation. With regret, we have made the decision to cancel your cruise vacation. We share in your disappointment and offer our sincere apologies. The safety, and well-being of our guests and crew is always our top priority.”

Several people say that a crew member who recently transferred from the cruise ship Grand Princess to Royal Princess sparked concerns.

Vice President Mike Pence announced earlier today that they are tracking another ship that may have shared crew with Diamond Princess and Grand Princess. Mr Pence didn’t mention the name of the ship they are tracking, and many are concerned that this might be the Royal Princess.

Update:

Princess Cruises said they were requested by the CDC to share information about a crew member who previously served on Grand Princess and transferred to Royal Princess.

“After sharing all information and details about the crew member, the CDC approved clearance for Royal Princess yesterday, to sail today, with no restrictions placed on the vessel. However, late this afternoon, the CDC informed us of their decision to issue a “no-sail order” until the crew member was tested for COVID-19. We have unfortunately been unable to obtain this test given the lateness of the request. The crew member is past the maximum incubation of COVID-19, has been evaluated and has never developed any respiratory symptoms or fever. The crew member had no known contact or exposure to other guests or crew who were ill on Grand Princess.” Princess Cruises' statement reads.
