Two thousand passengers where asked to leave the Dawn Princess and wait for a couple of hours in Seward before being allowed back on the ship due to sanitation.

Kirby Day, Director of shore operations stated that a number of crew and passengers had GI symptoms and that Princess cruises was dealing with it. In order not to affect more people Princess decided to sanitize the ship and quarantined six passengers and three crew members in their cabins.

The remaining passengers were evacuated and crew members began intense sanitation procedures with Bleach and Microback. The operation was organized with a help of Center for Disease Control and health officer was brought to oversee the whole operation.

“All of the cruise ships stress frequent daily hand-washing and sanitizing, crew uses a potent virus killer to treat all surfaces and to clean the cabins daily” Kirby Day said.
“We’ve been very fortunate this season,” “We just haven’t had a lot of cases.” In fact this was the only instance this cruise season of a Princess Cruise passengers contracting the flu-like virus”

However we reported back in March that a group of crew and passengers had GI symptoms on Ruby Princess and the ship was sanitized in Port Everglades.
