A crew member has died on board P&O Cruises’ Arvia following a serious workplace accident on October 26. The tragedy happened just two days after the vessel departed Southampton for a transatlantic voyage to Bridgetown, Barbados.
P&O Cruises confirmed the heartbreaking news, saying that details remain under investigation. The company expressed its deepest sympathies, stating that support has been made available to the family and to the crew members onboard who are grieving the sudden loss of their friend.
Local authorities in Spain reported that Arvia made an emergency stop in La Coruna on Sunday after the accident. Emergency teams, including local fire crews, were present onboard for several hours while the ship remained docked during the afternoon and evening before later continuing toward Tenerife. Guests were notified by the ship’s captain once the vessel had arrived in port, and many described the atmosphere onboard as somber and reflective.
Marino PH reported that the crew member involved was from the Philippines and was fatally injured in an elevator accident. Official findings have not yet been released, and multiple agencies are now conducting investigations to determine exactly what happened.
The entire crew community sends heartfelt support to the family, friends, and the Arvia team during this incredibly difficult time. Losing a fellow crew member is not just a professional loss. It is losing someone who shared the same hallways, the same challenges, and the same dreams.
