TUI has officially signed an agreement with the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for construction of two new cruise ships for its Marella Cruises brand. The deal, valued at over two billion euros, is a significant investment with the vessels set to be delivered in 2030 and 2032.
The newly commissioned ships will be designed specifically for the English market, catering to the preferences and expectations of British cruise travelers. In line with modern maritime trends, the ships will be environmentaly friendly, incorporating cutting-edge technology to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
Fincantieri said that these vessels will "redefine premium cruising through refined design, high-quality materials, and a variety of spacious accommodations." This approach aligns with Marella Cruises’ strategy of enhancing its onboard experience while maintaining a commitment to eco-friendly operations.
Fincantieri and TUI Cruises have an established relationship, particularly through TUI Cruises—the joint venture between TUI and Royal Caribbean Cruises. Earlier this year, in February 2024, Fincantieri delivered Mein Schiff Relax, the first of two new-concept, dual-fuel-powered cruise ships. Its sister ship, Mein Schiff Flow, is currently under construction at the Monfalcone shipyard, with a scheduled delivery date in 2026.
"The project will bring together our expertise in ship design, innovation, and sustainability to deliver vessels that meet the evolving expectations of modern cruise passengers," said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri
This latest deal is a major milestone for Marella Cruises, reinforcing its commitment to premium experiences and environmental responsibility. These new ships are expected to set new standards in design, comfort, and sustainability, strengthening Marella’s position in the competitive cruise market.
