Freedom of the Seas departure delayed after false bomb alert

Apr 10, 2018

Yesterday's Boarding on the cruise ship Freedom of the Seas has been delayed at Port Everglades Pier 29 for two hours due to a security alert. According to the media report, the terminal went on lockdown after a K9 bomb-sniffing dog thought he smelled something suspicious in what was on a pallet which needed to be loaded on the ship. The suspicious pallet was offloaded on the pier by a truck bringing supplies to the Freedom of the Seas in Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale.

All Passengers were evacuated, and the terminal was put on lockdown while Broward Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad checked the pallet. Luckily nothing suspicious was found and Freedom of the Seas was cleared to resume boarding.

Brian Petrucci filmed this short video with BSO bomb squad at the pier.

After the lockdown, there was a long line of passengers in front of the pier waiting to board the ship. Todd N Dereka, one of the passengers waiting to board ‎shot the following video saying “Waiting for over 2 hours to board Freedom of the Seas Royal Caribbean Pier 29. Port Everglades. Heard there was a threat. Not sure what's going on but people have been in the heat with their luggage for hours!”
