With deep sadness we announce the death of a great Italian artist Gilbert Lebigre. His hometown Viareggio mourn the death of Gilbert Lebigre, great international artist who has contributed his works to raise awareness of the art of paper mache around the world. Gilbert Lebigre died at age of 63 and worked for Carnival since 1980. His art has crossed all the oceans. For many years he has worked with the Italian Shipyard Fincantieri for the construction of monumental sculptures installed on large cruise ships on Holland America Line. Among the most significant a complex artistic astrolabe high and unbelievable proportions made with precision mechanisms all made by hand and decorated with refined techniques dating from the seventeenth century.

Gilbert Lebigre created the largest art object on Holland America Line cruise ship ms Rotterdam, the Atrium Clock, in 1986. This sculture has 14 clocks that show the time in different locations around the world. At the heart of the cruise ship ms Ryndam, Gilbert Lebigre created a monumental fountain installed at the three-story high atrium.
