Crew Member Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault on a Co-worker

Disney Wonder crew member was arrested on sexual assault charges in Cadiz, Spain while the cruise ship was in Dry dock in Navantia shipyard. According to Diario De Cadiz the incident took place on Saturday morning on the ship 'Rhapsody', which serves as hotel for Disney Wonder crew, and other workers during the dry dock. The arrested crew member is identified as a 28 year-old, male from St. Lucia with initials JGL.

According to the victim statement, who is also working on Disney Wonder, all started at a crew party onboard the ship. After the party she and JGL went in his cabin where they had consensual sex, and spend the night together. In the morning, JGL tried to convince the woman to have anal sex, on which she refuses to do it. Given the refusal, allegedly the detainee had penetrated the victim anally, causing her pain.

After the sexual assault, the victim identified as a 27 year-old British national, didn’t wanted to report the incident, but finally she did it and at around 9 a.m. she contacted Cadiz police department. The police patrol moved to the scene and officers arrested the crew member and send him to Provincial Commissioner of Cadiz, where he stayed overnight waiting to appear before the judicial authority. Once this happened, and in light of the statements of those involved, the judge decided to send him to prison without bail, considering that the story of the woman offered no contradictions. If found guilty the crew member can be sentenced from one to three years imprisonment.

Disney Wonder arrived in Cadiz, Spain on 19 September, for extensive dry dock makeover. The ship is expected to remain in dry dock until late October before returning to Port Canaveral.
