The cruise ship Pacific Explorer was forced to turn back to Sydney harbour, and end the voyage early due to an incident involving seven passengers. The confrontation took place last night at around 1am, when several men started arguing over toilet queue. Police says that during the clash between two groups a 37-year-old Russian woman hit a man with an empty wine bottle, causing a cut to his head. The onboard security separated the men and they were detained. The injured man was treated by the on board medical personnel. Shortly after P&O Cruises Australia informed the NSW Police Marine Area Command asking them to attend Pacific Explorer this morning in order to remove the detained passengers as a result of their behavior.

“This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behavior that affects the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests. While these occurrences are rare, we have no hesitation in taking strong action when necessary that adheres to this policy. Pacific Explorer is currently on a three-night round-trip cruise from Sydney. Police met the ship inside the harbour to conduct the transfer of the group. We are assisting police in their inquiries.” says the statement released by P&O Cruises Australia.

The company adds that all seven passengers are placed on the backlist, meaning that they will no longer be welcome to travel with P&O Cruises, or any associated brand operated by Carnival Corporation.

Police says that all six men were subsequently released without any charges pending further inquiries, while the female was charged with reckless wounding and affray and taken to Newtown Police Station.
