Norwegian Star Enters Three-Week Dry Dock in France

Submitted by kgnadmin on

The Norwegian Star, a 294-meter cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, has arrived at the Damen Shiprepair dock in Brest, France, for a three-week maintenance period that began on October 21, 2024. This technical shutdown, managed by Damen Shiprepair, involves complex repairs and routine maintenance to prepare the vessel for future cruises.

Key Maintenance Projects at Damen Shiprepair:

1.    Azipod Overhaul: The ship’s two azipods (steerable thrusters) will be dismantled to replace their rotation bearings, essential for precise navigation and maneuverability.

2.    Bow Thruster Maintenance: Of the ship’s three bow thrusters, two will undergo detailed inspection, while the third will be replaced to ensure optimal performance.

3.    Stabilizer Replacement: A complete stabilizer replacement is also planned, requiring precision and coordination. This new 80-ton component, produced by Fouré Lagadec in France and Spain, has been delivered by cargo ship. Installation will involve cutting into the ship’s hull, a process scheduled around October 25.

4.    Hull Upkeep: Other essential work will focus on the hull, including valve servicing, thorough cleaning, and a fresh coat of paint to protect the structure and enhance hydrodynamics.
The Norwegian Star entered Brest’s dock No. 3 following a ten-day voyage from Southampton. The ship will remain at Brest until mid-November, when it will be ready to resume its journey.
