Protest Blocks Access to Port of Maceió Ahead of MSC Seaview Arrival

Access to the Port of Maceió, Brazil, was blocked Wednesday morning after dockworkers staged a protest that disrupted traffic and raised concerns ahead of the scheduled arrival of the cruise ship MSC Seaview.

The demonstration took place on Avenida Cícero Toledo in the Jaraguá neighborhood, one of the main routes leading to the port terminal. Workers placed barricades and hung banners reading “We are on strike,” causing long traffic queues of trucks and vehicles trying to reach the port.

By around 7:30 a.m., two of the three lanes were blocked, creating heavy congestion stretching toward the Jaraguá parking area.

The protest comes on a key day as MSC Seaview is expected to dock at around 10 a.m., bringing buses, taxis, and tour operators for passenger embarkation and shore excursions.

Dockworkers are demanding the full application of the INPC inflation adjustment to salaries and discounts on health plan costs, which they say are essential conditions for ending the strike.

Port authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the protest as of Wednesday morning.
