Wisdom is often said to come with age, but that was not the case for a Dutch couple who took their protest against cruises to an extreme by vandalizing a cruise ship in Amsterdam. The duo, a 67-year-old man from Oosterhout and a 56-year-old woman from Amsterdam, were arrested on the evening of their act of defiance.
According to police reports, the couple used a small boat to approach a moored cruise ship at Piet Heinkade. At approximately 6:30 p.m., they spray-painted the words "F… Cruises" onto the ship’s hull before being apprehended by authorities. The police, in cooperation with the port service, quickly intervened, arresting the suspects and confiscating the spray paint cans used in the vandalism. Both individuals have been transferred to a detention facility for questioning.
While authorities have not officially disclosed the name of the targeted vessel, the data suggests that the only cruise ship at the time in Amsterdam was Ventura, operated by P&O Cruises. Furthermore, the red and white paint scheme of the ship seen in the available photograph aligns with Ventura’s livery.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities are expected to determine the appropriate charges for the suspects in the coming days.
