Royal Caribbean Cancels Voyage on World's Largest Cruise Ship Due to Unplanned Maintenance

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Royal Caribbean has canceled the upcoming Icon of the Seas sailing, originally scheduled for September 28, 2024, due to unplanned maintenance.

In a statement to travel agents, Royal Caribbean explained, "We are currently conducting unplanned maintenance onboard Icon of the Seas." Although specific details about the issue have not been disclosed, the ship will remain docked to complete the necessary repairs.

Launched in January 2024, Icon of the Seas quickly captured global attention by becoming the world’s largest cruise ship, surpassing Wonder of the Seas in size, passenger capacity, and length. The ship can accommodate up to 7,600 guests, with a crew of 2,350, bringing its total capacity to nearly 10,000 people.

While Royal Caribbean has not revealed the exact nature of the maintenance or any related incidents, they have reassured passengers that the crew is working hard to resolve the issue. Repairs are expected to take several days, during which time the ship will remain in port.

Guests affected by the cancellation are being contacted directly and offered options for rebooking or compensation.
