Norwegian Epic broke free from its moorings while docked at the Port of Catania, Italy prompting emergency maneuvers at sea and leaving hundreds of passengers ashore with little information.

Just after 1 p.m. local time, loud bangs echoed across the port as mooring lines on the Epic gave way under pressure. Several guests witnessed concrete mooring bollards being ripped from the pier and crashing into the ship’s hull. The vessel began drifting away from the dock as high winds swept through the area, worsening the already unstable situation.

A weeklong Alaska cruise aboard the Norwegian Bliss was marked by a series of medical emergencies.
Among the most serious incidents was the U.S. Coast Guard emergency medevac of a 54-year-old male passenger experiencing stroke-like symptoms. The rescue took place offshore of Cape Flattery, Washington. The man was airlifted from the vessel and transported to Olympic Medical Center via local emergency medical services.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH) has opened its dedicated medical clinic in the Philippines to serve its Filipino crew members.

Located on the 19th floor of the Trium Building along Buendia Avenue in Pasay City, the NCLH Medical Clinic and Laboratory OPC is a cutting-edge facility offering a full range of pre-employment medical services for seafarers set to join NCLH cruise ships.

On April 14, NCL’s cruise ship Norwegian Bliss sailed into Juneau, becoming the first ship to arrive in the Alaskan capital and officially launching the 2025 cruise season. While the ship's return was greeted by many with excitement, its arrival sparked controversy after concerns were raised about the amount of smoke coming from the vessel.

Norwegian Cruise Line christened its newest Prima Plus-class vessel, Norwegian Aqua, at PortMiami, with Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet serving as the ship’s ceremonial godfather. The event showcased not only the brand’s latest hardware innovation but also signaled upcoming enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island destination in the Bahamas.

Norwegian Cruise Line has signed an agreement to transfer two of its longtime Sun-class vessels — Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun — to Cordelia Cruises, India’s leading cruise line. The move, announced by Cordelia Cruises this week, will significantly expand the brand’s capacity in the region.
According to the agreement, Norwegian Sky will transfer in 2026, followed by Norwegian Sun in 2027. 

Norwegian Aqua’s inaugural transatlantic voyage has been extended by three days due to severe weather conditions, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) confirmed. Originally scheduled to arrive in Boston on April 4, the ship will now reach U.S. shores on April 7, docking in New York City instead.

In a letter sent to guests onboard, NCL stated:

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has officially taken delivery of Norwegian Aqua, the 20th ship in its fleet and the first in the new Prima Plus Class. Built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, Norwegian Aqua is 10% larger than its Prima-class predecessors, offering enhanced open spaces and upgraded amenities.

Meanwhile, NCL celebrated another milestone with the float-out of Norwegian Luna, marking the completion of the ship’s external construction. Now in the floating dock, Norwegian Luna will undergo interior finishing ahead of its scheduled launch in April 2026.

Norwegian Cruise Line officially welcomed its latest addition, Norwegian Aqua, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, as shipbuilder Fincantieri delivered the vessel at Marghera shipyard near Venice. The 156,300-gross-ton ship is the first in NCL’s new Prima Plus class, an evolution of the Prima-class ships that is roughly 10% larger than its predecessors.
