The Spanish cruise line Pullmantur Cruceros has partnered with European Design Institute (IED) and Ad Talent to design the new uniforms for its crew members. In achieving this creative task sponsored by the prestigious Spanish designer Juanjo Oliva (fashion designer for Zara before creating his own company), a competition was organized for students to design the uniforms.
From a variety of different F&B positions to onboard entertainment staff and hotel personnel, the students are tasked to design many different uniforms to match Pullmantur culture and its Spanish roots. The participants will have to combine the design of current and timeless garments with the durability and functionality that this type of uniforms demands.
Richard J. Vogel, President and CEO of Pullmantur Cruceros said "We have been working for months to improve our product even further, introducing novelties in order to intensify our Spanish DNA and offer a more attractive proposal to our passengers. Knowing that the uniforms of the crew - our main ambassadors - are a key element and that their image should be aligned with our product, we look for a different way of renewing them; for that reason, we went to these great talents of design to participate and support the creation of them, "he explains.”
The idea is the result of collaboration and joint work of Pullmantur Cruises with the European Design Institute (IED) and Ad Talent and is aimed at students of the master of Fashion Design of the IED. The first phase of the contest has already concluded, resulting in five finalists: Ada Björg, Ceren Kosker, Iria Lopez, Rocío Muñoz and Natalia Pestaña. From here, these applicants receive tutorials with professionals from the world of fashion such as the designer Miguel Becer, the creative director of the brand Mané Mané, the specialist in the design of work clothes María Ruano and Juanjo Oliva himself. The same will be presided over by the jury determined by the winner, who will be accompanied, among others, by the President and CEO of Pullmantur Cruceros, Richard J. Vogel, and representatives of Ad Talent and IED Madrid. The prize will be a scholarship of three in the sewing workshop of Juanjo Oliva and the cruise "Dubai and Legends of Arabia" for two people.
