Carnival Adventure Passengers and Crew Member Medevaced Near Tangalooma

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Marine Rescue Queensland’s Bribie Island unit carried out a major medical evacuation from the cruise ship Carnival Adventure while the vessel was anchored off Tangalooma, Moreton Bay.

The incident involved three injured patients—two passengers and one crew member. One passenger required stretcher transport, another was in a wheelchair, and the crew member had sustained an injury that required medical attention ashore. Two family members accompanied the passengers during the evacuation to ensure their support and comfort.

According to MRQ Bribie, the call came in at 11:36 a.m. when Bribie Island Radio Operator Denny Freeman received a request from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) to transport two ambulance officers to the cruise ship. The tasking was to medevac multiple patients back to the mainland.

Bribie 1 departed for Tangalooma under calm conditions, crewed by Commercial Coxswain Ian Grimes, Restricted Coxswain Stephen Parry, Crew Day Coxswain Lindsay Crompton, and Competent Crew David Logie, along with the two ambulance officers.

Once alongside the Carnival Adventure—a ship of 108,865 GT with a capacity of 2,636 passengers and 1,100 crew—the ambulance officers boarded to assess the situation. They subsequently transferred two passengers (one in a wheelchair and one on a stretcher), one injured crew member, two accompanying family members, and their luggage to the Bribie 1 rescue vessel.

The evacuees arrived back at MRQ Bribie headquarters at 2:34 p.m., where two further ambulances were waiting to transport the patients to hospital. After disembarkation, the MRQ crew carried out refueling, restowing, and washing of the vessel before standing down at approximately 3:45 p.m.
