Fulham’s Riverside Stand: The Premier League’s First ‘Cruise Ship Stadium’

When you think of a football stadium, you might picture roaring crowds, towering terraces, and giant digital screens. But Fulham FC has rewritten that script by designing their new Riverside Stand to resemble something entirely different like luxury cruise ship docked on the Thames.

From the moment you lay eyes on it, Fulham’s new Riverside Stand doesn’t just break with tradition—it redefines the category.

Built along the banks of the River Thames, the stand’s sweeping curves and glass-wrapped balconies make it look less like part of a football ground and more like the top deck of a luxury liner. With multiple tiers, rooftop terraces, and panoramic river views, it gives the impression that it might just drift off downstream after the final whistle.

It’s no coincidence. This cruise-ship resemblance is a deliberate architectural choice, part of a broader vision by Fulham’s owner, Shahid Khan, to create something completely unique in British sport.

Beyond the matchday crowd, the new stand introduces a riverside promenade open to the public all year. Visitors can walk along the Thames beneath the stand, take in the view, and enjoy the new public space—even when there’s no football on.

Shahid Khan, Fulham’s billionaire owner, summed it up best:

“This isn’t just a football stand. It’s a cruise ship on the Thames that happens to host Premier League football.”

That bold idea has guided the entire design philosophy: to create an international destination, not just a seat for 90 minutes.

It’s not the biggest. It’s not the loudest. But it might just be the most elegant football stand in the world.
