MSC Cruises Names Captain Paolo Benini to Lead MSC World Asia

MSC Cruises has announced that Captain Paolo Benini will take command of the new MSC World Asia when the ship enters service later this year.

The announcement comes as MSC Cruises marks six months until the vessel's debut, while also sharing new details about the highly anticipated addition to its World Class fleet.

Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, confirmed the appointment, praising Captain Benini's leadership and experience.

"I am pleased to announce that Captain Paolo Benini will be in command of MSC World Asia," said Onorato. "His exceptional leadership aboard MSC Euribia, including its recent deployment in Dubai, demonstrated the qualities needed to lead this extraordinary new flagship."

Captain Benini joined MSC Cruises in 2024 following a distinguished maritime career and has earned respect among crew members and guests alike for his calm, approachable, and people-focused leadership style.

MSC World Asia is scheduled to be officially named on November 28, 2026, during a ceremony at Le Havre, France. The event will bring together tourism industry leaders, business partners, media representatives, and special guests for the traditional christening celebration.

As the third vessel in MSC Cruises' World Class series, MSC World Asia will feature design elements inspired by the cultures, landscapes, and artistic heritage of Asia while continuing the cruise line's focus on innovation, entertainment, dining, and guest comfort.

The ship will become the latest addition to a fleet of eight planned World Class vessels, following the successful launches of MSC World Europa and MSC World America.

Following the naming ceremony, MSC World Asia will begin its inaugural Mediterranean season on December 4, 2026. The ship will sail seven-night itineraries from Barcelona, visiting destinations including Marseille, Messina, Civitavecchia (Rome), Naples, and Valletta, with guests able to embark at multiple ports along the route.
