A major leadership transition has taken place at MSC, as founder Gianluigi Aponte has officially handed over ownership of the company to his children, Diego Aponte and Alexa Aponte Vago.

The transfer, finalized in late 2025 and announced on April 13, 2026, is historic moment for the Geneva-based shipping giant. Despite the ownership change, leadership remains stable. Diego Aponte continues to serve as President, while Alexa Aponte Vago remains Chief Financial Officer. Gianluigi Aponte will stay on as Executive Chairman, providing guidance and continuity during the transition.

In a company statement, Aponte described the move as a natural step in continuing the family’s long maritime tradition and expressed confidence in the next generation’s leadership.

MSC confirmed that its core focus on container shipping remains unchanged, where it is the world’s largest operator. At the same time, the group continues expanding into rail, air cargo, and logistics, strengthening its position as a fully integrated global transport company.
