Crew Member Dies Onboard Norwegian Joy

A crew member aboard the Norwegian Cruise ship, Norwegian Joy, has died on 9 July 2019. The 29-year-old crew member from Mauritius, Chandraprakash Beersee, passed away in his cabin on Norwegian Joy, while the vessel was sailing to Juneau, Alaska. According to reports, the cause of death was a heart attack while the crew member was sleeping. Chandraprakash was a talented pastry chef who has boarded the vessel three weeks before his death on 15 June 2019.

The newspaper Lexpress has reported about this sad news, saying that the family is still waiting for the report of the autopsy as well as repatriation of the body. When someone close dies overseas, bringing them home for the funeral is quite a challenging process which can take a long period of time.

This year alone six crew members and officers have died of a heart attack while working for the cruise lines.

Silvio Gentile, Carnival Cruise Line Director of Scheduling and Compliance, has passed away from a heart attack in July in Miami, Florida. Gentile started as a Deck Officer at Carnival Cruise Line in 2002 and eventually rising to the rank of Safety Officer.

The Food and Beverage Server Devendra Kumar, age 32, from India, died from a heart attack onboard the Italian cruise ship Costa Luminosa. His last phone call back home was on June 11th, with his mother Radhika. He told her he will be coming home soon for a holiday.

Carnival Cruise Line team member has passed away onboard Carnival Sunshine on April 27, while the cruise ship was in Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship’s departure was delayed until the team member has been taken off the ship.

The cabin attendant Syne Diente age 39, passed away on January 12, 2019, onboard the cruise ship Mein Schiff 1. Ship’s medical personnel was alarmed by his cabin mate and quickly responded to the scene, but unfortunately, it was too late.

Carnival Cruise Line Assistant Maitre D, Charnel Rego from India, passed away suddenly onboard Carnival Freedom from a heart attack while picking up his lunch in the staff mess. For two hours Shipboard medical personnel tried to revive him, but it was too late.
