Submitted by kgnadmin on

Two crew members were rescued yesterday from the waters of St. Lawrence River by the Canadian Coast Guard after they jumped from the cruise ship Celebrity Summit. The circumstances surrounding the event are not yet known, however, both crew members were wearing their life jackets when rescued.

The Coast Guard rescued the first person at approximately 5:40 am, after they heard someone scream for help. Suffering from hypothermia the 27-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment. The same person informed authorities that there was second individual who jumped off the ship.

The second crew member age 36, was rescued around 7 am about three miles from where the first man was found. He was also taken to the hospital for signs of hypothermia. Canadian authorities have launched an investigation to find if this is an accident, or a voluntary act.

According to Journal De Quebec there are speculations that the two men are asylum seekers. The same website released a short statement by the company saying that "two crew members left the vessel without permission while descending into the water.”
