MSC Cruises celebrated the delivery of its 21st cruise ship MSC Seascape, at Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard. The delivery of MSC Seascape comes just days after the naming ceremony of the biggest ship in the fleet, MSC World Europa.

The handover ceremony was attended by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, the president of the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia Region, Massimiliano Fedriga, the mayor of Monfalcone, Anna Maria Cisint, admiral Nicola Carlone, general commander of the Port Authorities, Gianluigi Aponte, founder and chairman of the MSC Group, Pierfrancesco Vago, and the ship’s godmother Zoe Africa Vago.

“MSC Seascape is the second ship to come into service this year bringing our modern fleet to 21 ships. We are proud to welcome her to our fleet as she is the second Seaside EVO ship and completes the innovative Seaside class. MSC Seascape aims to connect guests with the sea, she offers a wealth of outdoor spaces allowing guests to enjoy the beautiful scenery of The Caribbean, where she will spend her inaugural season. The ship’s distinctive design with nearly 13,000 m of outdoor space and an expansive waterfront promenade, invites guests to enjoy their escape to The Caribbean and disconnect.” MSC Cruises Chief Executive Officer Gianni Onorato said.

MSC Seascape spans a length of 339 meters, a width of 41 meters, and a height of 76 meters. The 170, 400-tonne vessel can accommodate 5,632 passengers and 1,648 crew. The ship’s construction is estimated to have been worth about € 1 billion.

Environmental features incorporated on MSC Seascape include selective catalytic reduction systems on all four Wartsila 14V 46F engines to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 90% by converting the gas into nitrogen.

The new design also has water and hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems which are expected to remove 98% of sulphur from ship emissions, the company said.
