Crew Member Raises Concerns Over Cabin Conditions on Norwegian Jewel

A crew member on the Norwegian Jewel has reached out to Crew Center to share concerns about the condition of the assigned cabin, raising questions about inspection standards and living conditions on board.

The crew member, who asked to remain anonymous, said that after joining the ship was surprised by what they found upon entering cabin.

Photos sent to Crew Center appear to show several issues. One image shows a drawer or storage compartment containing stained papers and personal items left behind, suggesting it had not been cleaned or cleared after the previous occupant signed off. Another photo reveals torn and heavily worn bedding, with visible damage to the mattress surface. According to the crew member, dirty linen had also been left behind in the cabin.

The crew member said that the cabin is shared by five people. For some joining the vessel the experience was described as disappointing.

“I was working in another cruise company and it was completely different… I heard Norwegian is better than other companies,” the crew member said.

They also questioned whether proper cabin inspections are carried out when crew members sign off, noting that another crew member who joined the same day reported similar conditions in their own cabin.

Living conditions are a critical part of crew wellbeing, especially on contracts that can last 6 months. Clean and properly maintained cabins are not only a matter of comfort but also of hygiene and basic standards.

We hope that Norwegian Cruise Line takes these concerns seriously and takes swift action to address them. Crew members deserve clean, safe, and properly maintained living spaces. Improving these conditions is not just about comfort, but about respect for the crew who keep operations running every day.
