MSC Seaside Mooring Lines Snap in Strong Winds at Ocean Cay

Strong winds briefly disrupted operations at MSC Cruises private island Ocean Cay, on Thursday, when the cruise ship MSC Seaside was pushed away from the pier after several mooring lines snapped.

The incident happened while some guests were still ashore. With the front of the ship drifting away from the dock, passengers had to wait on the pier for a short time before they could return onboard. The back of the vessel remained securely tied.

The ship’s bridge team acted quickly, using bow thrusters to bring MSC Seaside safely back alongside the pier. Once the ship was back in position, the gangways were reconnected and guests were able to reboard without further delays.

No injuries were reported, and there was no serious damage to the ship or the pier.

At the time, MSC Seaside was sailing a short Bahamas round-trip from Miami between February 2 and 6, 2026. The ship returned to Miami as scheduled the following day and continued its regular operations.

The vessel is currently running three- and four-day cruises that include stops in Nassau and Ocean Cay.
