Puerto Plata’s New Taino Bay Port Welcomes First Cruise Ship

Submitted by kgnadmin on

MSC Seashore had the honor of being the first-ever cruise ship to dock in the new cruise port in the Dominican Republic, the Taino Bay.  The new ship, who’s started sailing in November this year, begins its voyage this season with roundtrip from the Port Miami (USA), with stops in Ocho Rios, Georgetown, Cozumel, Ocean Cay, San Juan, Charlotte Amalie, Puerto Plata (Taino Bay).

The new port is Puerto Plata’s former cargo pier, extended to be able to fit two large ships (two of the Oasis-class) and a smaller one. Twentyfour cruise calls are planned for December in the new destination, out of which around 160 are booked through April 2022.

The following cruise lines, besides MSC Cruises, have this port in their itineraries: Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Virgin Voyages, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Food, art, history, nature and adventure excursions are available from Taino Bay, with more than 30 to choose from.

Earlier this year, Virgin Voyages’ senior director of itineraries, destinations, and government relations Juan Trescastro said that Taino Bay would be a “great Caribbean destination for our demographic in that they’re very active and into nature and culture. It’s going to be very popular.”

Puerto Plata is a well-known cruise call, because of Amber Cove. They are close to each other, only a seven-mile driving distance.

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism reported that the country is scheduled to see 84 cruise calls across five destinations this month, including Taino Bay and the country’s capital of Santo Domingo.
