A guest aboard the Carnival Valor has been rescued by the Coast Guard after being reported missing on Thursday while the ship was sailing in the Gulf of Mexico.

The missing man was last seen at a bar with his sister and left to use the restroom at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night. He never returned, and his sister reported him missing to the ship's authorities the following day.

The crew searched the ship but the man was nowhere to be found, and Carnival Valor retraced its route to support the search and rescue efforts.

The Coast Guard launched a multi-crew search effort by air and sea after receiving a call from the cruise ship at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

After searching the area, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that they rescued the man that was overboard from the Carnival Valor.

The man was spotted by a crew on another vessel, which reported to the USCG. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew hoisted the man onto the helicopter and immediately transferred him to emergency medical personnel waiting at New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

His condition has not been disclosed at this time, however, they say that he was found responsive at the time of rescue.

The Carnival Valor had left port in New Orleans on Wednesday for a 5 Night Western Caribbean cruise with stops at the popular Mexican destination Cozumel and Progreso.
