Submitted by kgnadmin on

Celebrity Cruises has taken delivery of its fourth Edge Series cruise ship, the 141,420 GT Celebrity Ascent, at Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France.

On November 8th, Celebrity Ascent left the shipyard in Saint-Nazaire on the French Atlantic coast setting sail across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. Celebrity Ascent is scheduled to arrive in Freeport, the Bahamas on November 18, 2023. A few days after the stopover in the Bahamas, the new vessel will celebrate its first call at Lauderdale, Florida. The cruise ship will be homported there during the 2023/24 winter season.

Prior to the christening on December 1, 2023, Celebrity Ascent will operate two Caribbean getaway voyages. On December 1, 2023, Captain Sandy Yawn and her sister, Michelle Dunham, will christen Celebrity Cruises' new Edge Class ship. Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises, described them as inspiring role models for young women. Michelle Dunham is a tireless advocate for children with autism and pursues a vision of a better world. Two days after the christening in Fort Lauderdale, the official maiden voyage of Celebrity Ascent begins on December 3, 2023.

Just like the godmothers, the captains are also siblings. Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis are two experienced sailors from Greece and take turns in commanding Celebrity Ascent. With a ship length of 327 meters and a width of 39 meters, the new vessel offers space for 3,950 guests. With the Magic Carpet, the orange platform over the sea on the side of the ship, the rooftop garden behind the X-shaped chimney, a modern resort deck with a large pool, and an impressive Grand Plaza in the center of the ship, Celebrity Ascent also combines the highlights of the Edge Class.
