Cruise passengers often get so immersed in exploring the ports that they occasionally forget personal belongings behind. While such oversights can lead to stressful moments, the quick and coordinated response of local authorities frequently saves the day.
In Livorno, Italy, a wallet containing an American driving license, two credit cards, $690 USD, and €100 EUR was found near the taxi stand at Piazza Dante. Promptly turning it over to the authorities, a vigilant citizen handed it to agents of the Livorno Railway Police.
The railway officers quickly identified the owner as a cruise passenger and reached out to the Maritime Border Police to ask how many cruise ships were docked. Discovering that only one ship, the Emerald Princess, was docked, State Police quickly proceeded to the port to contact the cruise ship officers.
Within moments, the guest services aboard the Emerald Princess confirmed that the wallet belonged to one of their passengers.
Visibly moved by the swift recovery, the passenger embraced the Italian officers with sincere gratitude. The entire ordeal concluded smoothly, just 30 minutes before the Emerald Princess set sail from Livorno.
