Royal Caribbean Group Donates $40,000 to Norway’s Seaman’s Mission to Support Visiting Seafarers

Royal Caribbean Group has announced a generous $40,000 donation to the Norwegian Seaman’s Mission, reinforcing its dedication to seafarer welfare and local communities in key port destinations.

The funding will benefit Seafarers’ Welfare Centres across four Norwegian cities includeing Ålesund, Bergen, Honningsvåg, and Stavanger, where thousands of international seafarers, including cruise ship crew stop annually during voyages. The centers offer free services, recreation, and cultural support, functioning as a “home away from home” for those working at sea.

“Seafarers play a crucial role in the global maritime and cruise industry, and we are honored to support the Seaman's Mission in Norway with this donation,” said Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises, during her visit to the Ålesund centre. “Our crew members are the heart of the guest experience, and this is one way to give back to them and all seafarers who keep the industry moving.”

The donation will be used to improve the Mission’s services, including:

• Free Wi-Fi and communication facilities
• Cultural and educational programs
• Recreational activities to promote mental wellbeing
• Quiet spaces for rest and relaxation
• Free transportation and support services

These resources help mitigate the mental and physical toll of life at sea by promoting relaxation, cultural exchange, and camaraderie among international crew.

“Everything we provide is free of charge for the crew,” said Pål Vigmostad, Chairman of the Norwegian Seaman’s Mission. “We are deeply grateful that one of the world’s largest cruise companies is taking such significant responsibility in helping sustain these centers for the global seafaring community.”

The announcement was praised by Monica Molvær, Deputy Mayor of Ålesund, who highlighted the cruise industry’s vital role in Norway’s coastal economies.

“Having a place for the seamen and crew to relax and unwind is essential. We are very pleased that Royal Caribbean Group continues to support these centres and our community.”

This donation aligns with Royal Caribbean Group’s broader sustainability and impact initiative, SEA the Future, which focuses on:
• Sustaining the Planet
• Energizing Communities
• Accelerating Innovation
