Cunard has unveiled the winners of its latest ‘World of Cunard’ creative competition, celebrating artistic talent among its crew. This year’s theme, ‘Sailing as Four,’ marked a new chapter for the brand as it expands to a four-ship fleet, offering new opportunities for both guests and crew.
As part of an effort to protect and preserve the marine environment, Cunard crew members and shoreside colleagues have actively participated in 14 coastal clean-ups across seven countries throughout 2024. With over 100 shoreside colleagues and more than 160 crew members involved, these initiatives have successfully cleared 235,000 square meters of coastline, removing over 1.2 tonnes of waste.
Scientists are exploring the potential of installing solar panels on cruise ship cabins to help cut emissions and boost energy efficiency. A team from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) ran simulations to see just how much power these balcony-mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels could generate. The results? Pretty impressive. Based on test cruises in the Caribbean and along Norway’s coast, the panels could provide between 3.2 and 3.8 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy per day—enough to significantly reduce a ship’s reliance on traditional fuels.
