AIDA Cruises is launching the biggest fleet upgrade in its history, called AIDA Evolution. By 2026, the first three ships in the Sphinx series will undergo extensive modernization. The first ship to be revamped is the AIDAdiva, which will be in the Chantier Naval shipyard in Marseille, France, from February 3 to March 22, 2025. Next up, AIDAluna will be in the shipyard from October 22 to December 10, 2025, and AIDAbella will follow from January 21 to March 11, 2026.
The renovation for each ship will focus on:
• Enhanced Technology: Upgrading ship systems for better performance.
• Improved Experience: Adding new features for more fun and comfort.
• Service and Comfort: Expanding services and making all guest cabins look brand new.
• Exclusive Areas: Introducing special areas and services for suite guests.
• Culinary Delights: Offering more restaurants and signature bars.
• Family Fun: Creating new activity areas for families with children.
• Theatrium: Refurbishing the Theatrium with inviting seating and a new color scheme.
Timeline of the Fleet Renewal
- Spring 2025: The AIDAdiva will be the first to receive a complete makeover at the Chantier Naval shipyard. The ship will resume its voyages on March 23, 2025, starting with trips to Italy and Malta, followed by summer cruises to the North and Baltic Sea coasts.
- Late 2025 to Early 2026: AIDAluna and AIDAbella will follow with their own upgrades.
Looking Forward
AIDA Cruises plans to reveal more details about these exciting changes over the summer. Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, emphasized the company's commitment to innovation, saying, "As market leader and pioneer in the industry, it is our aim to continually rethink cruises. The ships of the Sphinx series have made cruise history with their innovative spatial concept and colorful design. We want to build on this with our AIDA Evolution program."
AIDA is also committed to sustainability. The modernization will include upgrades to reduce fuel consumption, increase energy efficiency, and conserve resources. As part of Carnival Corporation & plc, AIDA aims to reduce carbon intensity by 20% by 2026 compared to 2019 levels.
This modernization is just the beginning. AIDA plans to extend these upgrades to the Sphinx-2 ships (AIDAblu, AIDAmar, AIDAsol, and AIDAstella) in the future.
