A 27 year-old US citizen from Colorado was arrested by Messina authorities. The 27 year-old was arrested on board Celebrity’s Equinox and will be prosecuted based on the sexual charges brought against him by the Messina authorities. High tech information intern from USA – whose name has not been released to the public at this time – was reported to the authorities for the rape of a 30 year old English passenger of the female sex who was traveling with her family aboard the same ship.
The young intern and passenger met on Friday evening in one of the bars aboard the Equinox. Their first encounter in the bar was viewed on the CCTV videos by the mobile team of Messina. As it was seen on the videos, after having few drinks together they went to his room. Shortly after, the girl ran out of the cabin without her clothes screaming. Two crew members passing through the corridor noticed the girl and came to her help. Once the passing crew members learned of what have happened they reported the incident to the ship’s captain.
The event took place while the cruise ship was sailing the sea near the island of Capri. Once the ship was docked in Messina early in the morning on July 14, the officers aboard Celebrity Equinox reported the incident to local authorities. The alleged rapist turned himself to the authorities voluntarily explaining to them that an actual sexual intercourse did not occur. He went on to explain to the authorities that the victim and he only had oral sex and nothing more.
Port authorities in Messina issued the detention order for the young intern after obtaining permission from the Minister of Justice. They have also informed the American consul in Palermo.
