Buenos Aires Opens the Cruise Season

The Cruise Terminal Puerto Nuevo Quinquela, the facility, known as the most modern and efficient, hosted the opening ceremony of the cruise season 2012/2013 welcoming MSC Magnifica.

This will be a great season, despite the crisis that hit the major source markets in Europe and the United States and the slowdown of the Brazilian economy. It will not be as extensive in time, but will have more cruise ships than last year. It is expected more than half a million passengers which will be a record unthinkable five years ago. Each cruise ship will create jobs for taxi drivers, food employees, tango and shopping.

There is a state policy in Argentina, which is in support of the national state and the General Administration of Ports (AGP) to achieve growth of cruise tourism. This port is the fastest growing in the east coast of South America, because all the actors have invested and continue to do. Cruise ships are getting bigger, AGP continues to invest in infrastructure, terminals and Rio de la Plata (TRP) has completed this terminal, Said Gustavo Figuerola, CEO TRP.

The great merit of the port of Buenos Aires is having achieved a synergy between the container and cruise activaties. Pleasure vessels have all access and berthing priorities, and while they saturate only for four months, the activity is container all year given the economic sustainability so they can operate.
