Cancer Survivors Aboard Holland America’s Oosterdam

Holland America’s Oosterdam Sunday had the pleasure to have aboard 400 of those cancer survivors who fought that fight and won against all odds.

When a person faces cancer there is one of two things to do, fight like hell or give up, and even though sometimes those people who fight like hell do not make it.  This disease does not discriminate and takes women and men, strong and weak, young and old just as equally.  Those who survive, live to tell the story of the fight they had to endure and inspire those who are just going through that horrible ordeal which affects not only the person who carries the disease and has to fight, but also their loved ones.

Holland America’s Oosterdam Sunday had the pleasure to have aboard 400 of those cancer survivors who fought that fight and won against all odds.  This event, which does not occur often, was an opportunity for people to share stories of their experience and struggles with this deadly disease.  Most of the survivors explain the painful treatment as a lonely experience and this event allows them to feel as a part of this community of fighters.  Holland America is a long-time supporter of the Komen Puget Sound, the organizer of this event  that the survivors were able to enjoy for free, but that is not all, they were able to raise more than $3 million for the same organization through the onboard 5K walks called “Komen on Deck.”
