Carnival Imagination Heading For The Scrapyard?

Submitted by kgnadmin on

After Carnival Corporation announced on July 29, that the company will be disposing additional two ships as part of non-cash impairment charge, it would appear that the next ship heading for scrapyard might be Carnival Imagination. According to the ship-tracking website Marine Traffic, Carnival Imagination’s reported destination is now set to the Turkish port of Aliaga with an estimated arrival at the scrapyard on 10th September.

“We previously announced, on July 10, 2020, plans to remove nine ships from our fleet in the next 90 days.  The plans for the disposal of these ships are in addition to the sale of four ships, which were announced prior to fiscal 2020. We have made a decision to remove a further two ships from our fleet.  These decisions are intended to align the fleet with the expected phased restart of guest cruise operations while also generating cost savings.” reads part of the Carnival Corp. statement released last month.

Carnival previously announced that the cruise ship Carnival Imagination would be placed into long cold lay-up together with Carnival Fascination.

At this moment nothing has been confirmed from Carnival Corporation about Carnival Imagination disposal to the scrapyard, it would now seem very likely that she will be heading there and an announcement will most probably be made in the following days. Currently, the ship is docked at Willemstad, Curacao where it is believed that the removal of equipment will take place before sailing across Atlantic for her final voyage to the ship-breaking facility in Aliaga.

Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration have already arrived at Aliaga for scrapping, and Carnival Imagination might be the third Fantasy class ship to be scrapped.
