Carnival Sunshine Norovirus Outbreak

Stomach bug struck 178 passengers and crew on board Carnival Sunshine. According to CDC, 173 passengers and 5 crew members suffered from Gastrointestinal symptoms manifested with stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. CDC epidemiologist boarded Carnival Sunshine in Port Canaveral on March 5, 2016 and conducted an epidemiologic investigation of the outbreak.

Crew on board responded to the outbreak with immediate actions following USPH procedures according to their OPP (outbreak prevention plan). Intense cleaning and disinfection with Bleach and Microbac was conducted in all public areas.

There was planned staged disembarkation for infected passengers, and sanitation of the terminal in order to provide safe environment for embarking passengers.
