Carnival Sunshine Sails on Inaugural Caribbean Voyage from Port Canaveral

To commemorate the inaugural Caribbean departure of Port Canaveral’s newest ship, the totally transformed Carnival Sunshine, Space Coast residents gathered this weekend in nearby Jetty Park to wave streamers and spell out “BON VOYAGE” as the ship sailed past.

The 3,006-passenger Carnival Sunshine – which underwent a massive $155 million makeover that added all of the line’s Fun Ship 2.0 innovations, as well as 182 new staterooms – operates year-round five- to eight-day voyages from Port Canaveral visiting tropical destinations throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Florida.

Innovations on Carnival Sunshine include WaterWorks featuring a 334-foot-long Twister slide – the longest in the Carnival fleet – along with a stunning three-deck-high Serenity adults-only retreat, Guy’s Burger Joint developed in tandem with Food Network star Guy Fieri, and SportSquare, an outdoor recreation area with a suspended ropes course, mini-golf, basketball court and more.

Carnival Sunshine builds upon the line’s leadership position at Port Canaveral.  Carnival Sunshine, combined with Carnival Sensation, and Carnival Liberty which launches service next month, will result in 600,000 passengers annually sailing on Carnival ships from Port Canaveral – more than any cruise operator.  Carnival’s three Port Canaveral-based ships will operate 200 three- to eight-day voyages a year.
