Chile Will Host Global Cruise Convention in 2013

Chilean Deputy Minister for Tourism Jacqueline Plass, announced today an international cruise convention in the Chilean region of Valparaíso on 14 and 15 May 2013.

"We are a country with big market opportunities for the cruise industry, therefore, we are committed to the regain competitiveness and we are developing new strategies to grow this type of tourism," she said.

The convention will bring together entrepreneurs under the provisions related to the heading and tourism companies to address a global market reaching 20 million passengers this year and a forecast increase of up to 29 million passengers by 2022.

According to Plass, the convention will encourage an increase in tourist arrivals by cruise ships and promotion in specific markets. The Tourism department made the presentation along with Nicola Bateman and Christophe Cahen, members of the organizing committee of Seatrade, and Sebastian Montero, president of the Ports Corporation Southern Cone.

Bateman noted "We hope to create opportunities not only for the development of the cruise industry on the continent and its Pacific coast, but also to promote Chile and the natural beauty and experience that a tourists can find it in this unique country. "

In turn, Cahen, president of the Ports Corporation of South America, highlighted the relevance of this trade show for the industry.

The third South American convention follows conventions organized in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
