The Coast Guard evacuated a man from the Holland America Line cruise ship Ms Eurodam south of Duke Island in Alaska.
The crew of the MH-60 Jayhawk Coast Guard helicopter from the Sitka air station hoisted a man who had symptoms of cardiac problems. The crew took the patient to Ketchikan, where he was placed in the custody of the Guardian Flight aircraft for transport to a higher level of medical care in Bellingham, Washington.
At 6.30 pm, the Coast Guard received the first request for Medevac from the cruise ship Eurodam, which sails under the flag of the Netherlands.
The crew of the Coast Guard helicopter arrived at the scene with Eurodam around 10 pm. at the entrance to Dixon, about 30 miles south of Duke Island. The crew lowered the rescue swimmer and the rescue stretcher before lifting the patient onto the plane. At the time of the medevac, there was a wind of 20 mph.
