This Monday, on 20th of December, Costa Diadema has made its first stop at the Port of Santos, where a debut ceremony was held on board the vessel. Brazils Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto participated at this event, highlighting that the country is able to welcome more ships like the Costa Diadema in order to increase the movement of tourists. “We know that Brazil can become the America of maritime cruises. We have bottlenecks, but we also have ports in our capitals that accommodate large ships. All of our capitals, especially the coastal ones, have international airports, without exception.” He said
The Costa Diadema is one of the biggest ships this season, that Costa Cruises brought to South America, with a capacity of 4,947 passengers, offering accommodation in 1,862 cabins on 19 decks, with additional 1,253 crew members. Costa Diadema is the fifth ship arriving in Brazil this season joining MSC Preziosa, Costa Fascinosa, MSC Seaside, and MSC Splendida, which have already sailed from the Port of Santos this season.
The godmother, Egle Rodrigues Pereira, Tia Egle, who works with children in the areas of Education, Sports, Culture and Leisure, was chosen to cut the ribbon for the Costa Diadema. Her organization will receive a food donation from Costa Cruises.
"Today we are very happy because this cruise season almost didn't happen because of the covid-19 pandemic. Santos acted firmly with the Ministry of Tourism so that this recovery could happen", commented Selley Storino. "Our security protocol was an example. to other destinations".
The commander of Costa Diadema, Giorgio Moretti expressed his satisfaction of the ship docking in Brazil for the first time. "Diadem refers to diamonds and the name of the ship speaks about the love we have for the sea, which we have for our guests".
