Crown Princess in Red Code

The cruise ship Crown Princess, scheduled to arrive in Galveston on Saturday is in red code due to rapid spread of the Norovirus. Princess Cruises spokesperson said that the ship is carrying more than 2600 passengers and 102 onboard are reported sick ( 96 passengers and 6 crew members.

The Crown Princess, will undergo a “comprehensive disinfection” when it reaches its final port of call. After all passengers leave the ship, crew members will conduct general special cleaning using bleach and microback for sanitizing all public surfaces.

Princess Cruises spokesperson, Karen Candy, said they took extra precautions with sanitation as soon as they noticed an increase in sick passengers.

"Our sanitation program has been developed in coordination with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and includes such measures as thorough disinfection of high-touch surfaces like railings, door handles and elevator buttons; encouraging passengers to use correct hand washing procedures and enhancing this with the use of hand sanitizing gels placed throughout the ship," Candy said in a written statement.
