Cruise Ship Collides with Dock in Italy

During the docking maneuver in the port of Genoa the cruise ship MSC Sinfonia has bumped her stern on the dock at the Ponte dei Mille. MSC Cruises officials said "very slight damage is reported to the pier." Italian media reports that there was a problem with the engines which did not allow the maneuver to be performed correctly. The Msc Sinfonia bumped against the dock with a loud noise that caused a moment of understandable excitement but engineers have quickly established that the damages are limited and "aesthetic". The minor damage of the berth will be restored soon.

At the time of the accident there were no passengers onboard and only the crew was on the ship since the arrival of the passengers was scheduled for early afternoon.

Because of the accident the maiden voyage of the MSC Sinfonia will be  delayed about 2 hours for security checks and to restore the damage. The ship underwent a refitting operation with lengthening in order to extend the capacity of the passengers cabins.
