St. Thomas Police is searching for the rightful owner of a diamond ring after a cruise ship passenger mistakenly walked out of a store with the ring on her finger.

After the passenger realized that she had diamond ring on her finger, she returned the ring to the police officer. However she told the police that she visited about 50 stores in downtown Charlotte Amalie and Havensight and she didn’t remember in which store she tried on the diamond ring.

Police spokeswoman Melody Rames said “Once she realized the ring was still on her finger, the woman found a police officer and handed the ring.”

Police authorities are asking the owners of the jewelry stores in Havensight and downtown to call 715-5548 if they are missing a diamond ring. In order to find the rightful owner police will ask the callers a series of questions and they will be required to sign a release statement
