Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 is undergoing dry dock works at the Damen Shiprepair shipyard in Rotterdam. Following its final stop in Hamburg on October 22, 2023, the cruise ship sailed directly to Rotterdam and has been in dry dock since October 23, 2023. Anticipated to resume guest operations on November 16, 2023, the Queen Mary 2 will undergo standard maintenance work reminiscent of a classic ocean liner.
During the dry dock, various tasks are being carried out, including the cleaning and repainting of the ship's hull. Additionally, accessibility to the propeller, stabilizers, and bow thrusters allows for necessary maintenance in these areas. Interior renovations are also underway on the Queen Mary 2.
In contrast to its previous extensive shipyard stay in Hamburg in May 2016, which involved substantial renovation work and the installation of new cabins, the current stay in Rotterdam is relatively less extensive. Damen Shiprepair is expected to complete all necessary work on the Queen Mary 2 in the coming days. The vessel is scheduled to return to guest service in Southampton on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
Following the dry dock period, the Queen Mary 2's first voyage will be a three-day short trip to Zeebrugge, Belgium, commencing on November 19, 2023. Subsequently, on November 19, 2023, the cruise ship will embark on an Atlantic crossing to New York City. Following a twelve-day Caribbean cruise from/to New York City, the Queen Mary 2 will once again sail across the Atlantic to return to Southampton.
