The eye of Hurricane Sandy passed directly thru the tiny Disney Cruise Line’s private island, Castaway Cay. Last week Sandy slammed Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, Bahamas and continued north towards Canada

The only ship scheduled to visit Castaway Cay in the time of the impact was Disney Dream, but he managed to get out from the Hurricane’s path.

Because of security reasons, many Castaway Cay permanent residents were told to board Disney Dream for a few days, until the hurricane passes thru the island.
Rebecca Peddie, Manager, Public Affairs Disney Cruise Line said: “We do have a crew hurricane shelter on Castaway Cay should we ever need it.” It is to early too say how badly the island was hit as Ms. Peddie said “We are still assessing the impact of Hurricane Sandy to Castaway Cay.”

Dangerously close to Castaway Cay was last year Hurricane Irene, heading to the island before turning to Mid-Atlantic.
